📍 Location: Stockport (Hybrid Working Available)
💷 Salary: £30,000 pro-rata
🕒 Hours: 3 days per week (Wednesdays and Fridays required, plus one additional day) Immediate Start (temp – perm offered)


We are delighted to be recruiting on behalf of our client, a growing and dynamic business based in Stockport, for an experienced and motivated Assistant Accountant to join their finance team on a part-time basis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily bank reconciliations, ensuring accuracy across all transactions

  • Reconcile bank statements from the invoice finance provider (currently Close Bros) by importing data into Xero and matching payments to customer accounts using remittances

  • Liaise with the invoice finance provider to resolve queries efficiently

  • Assist with the weekly cash flow forecast and coordinate payment runs

  • Support the Finance Manager in preparing monthly management accounts, forecasts, and budgets

  • Take ownership of specific month-end processes, including:

    • PLEO reconciliation and receipt approvals

    • Updating and reconciling all bank accounts (including invoice finance)

  • Monitor and manage the Accounts Inbox: categorise, file, and resolve queries

  • Provide support to the Credit Controller with customer issues and credit control

  • Maintain an accurate and up-to-date Purchase Ledger with correct nominal coding

  • Manage the Fixed Asset Register and post monthly depreciation journals

  • Prepare monthly Balance Sheet reconciliations to ensure accuracy

  • Process and monitor staff expenses, ensuring proper documentation and timely payments


What We’re Looking For:

  • A well-rounded accounting professional with experience in a busy, high-volume finance environment

  • Strong understanding of accounting processes and monthly reporting cycles

  • Proficient in Xero, Microsoft Office (especially Excel), and ideally familiar with PLEO, STRIPE, Approval Max, GoCardless, and invoice finance platforms

  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail and a methodical approach

  • Confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills

  • Self-motivated and capable of managing deadlines and multiple tasks effectively

  • A collaborative and proactive team player who enjoys improving processes and driving efficiencies
